Factors that bring Viettel to become one of the most valuable brands in Vietnam

Recently, Forbes has picked Viettel to become the 2nd most valuable brands in Vietnam among more than 300 domestic others brands, only after Vinamilk. What have made the success of Viettel so far?

Although Viettel was established after Mobifone and Vinaphone, however with a refreshing path, Viettel has quickly received the trust of customers and become the leading telecommunications enterprise in Vietnam with 52% market shares. Viettel has been expanding the market beyond the border of Vietnam, with a total of 10 companies in the oversea market by the end of 2015 and Myanmar has been licensed to become the 11th one earlier this year. Revenue from overseas markets in the past year only has reached $1.5 billion. Furthermore, Metfone was honored to become the No. 1 brand in Cambodia. In Q2/2016, Viettel has also established a representative office in Ethiopia, a country in the East African region with the aim of researching and finding consistent effective strategy for this market. If licensed, Viettel expects to have a coverage of about 95% of the population, with 70.000km of fiber cable infrastructure, contribute to the growth of Ethiopia.

In recent years, there have been many activities with which Viettel is aiming to become the top 200 leading telecommunications globally. In February 2016, Viettel was the only participating telecommunication group in Vietnam to join the Mobile World Congress held in Barcelona, Spain with the theme Mobile in Emerging Countries. Also in June of this year, Viettel was, for the first time, honored to receive the gold prize for applications called BankPlus, and two other products received 2 bronze prizes, which are BCCS 2.0 and Anti-spam in 11th annual IT World Awards.

Viettel always give top priority to invest in transmission infrastructure to provide the best experience to customers. With the investment of $50 million for the subsea cable called AAE-1, Viettel became the only enterprise owning the cable landing station in Vung Tau. This cable connects three region Asia - Europe - Africa with the participation of 20 partners in 18 different countries worldwide. Last May, AAE-1 system has just completed the installation to connect physically to Vietnam’s cable landing station in Vung Tau and it is expected to officially put into operation in late 2017.

There are two important strategies for Viettel: expanding and growing the international markets and building successful industrial and defense complex in Vietnam. With this goal, Viettel is currently focusing on doing more research of 4G technology and also established a team to do research on 5G. In the international market, Viettel is always proud to be the pioneer network in providing leading technology. The Deputy General Director of the Group, said "Viettel desires to bring to any country a sustainable development through telecommunications investment."
