How Reliance Jio boosted Wi-Fi experience at Wankhede Stadium
Reliance Jio said Jionet’s Wi-Fi deployment on fiber network worked wonders at the Wankhede stadium during the recent ODI cricket match between India and South Africa. 30,000 cricket fans had a chance to experience the free Jio Wi-Fi internet irrespective of their telecom operator.
The Mukesh Ambani-promoted 4G operator has installed Wi-Fi infrastructure over 15,000 sq. mtrs. stadium. During the match, 14,500 out of 27500 used over 2,000 GB data on the Wi-Fi. The highest usage was for video streaming of content.
The telecom network operator shared some comparison showing the Wi-Fi user experience at some of the best sporting events in the world.
Reliance Jio, which will be commercially launching 4G LTE services in 2016, offered average throughput of 13.55 Mbps at Wankhede stadium against 4.68 Mbps during NFL at LEVI’S stadium and 5.09 Mbps during NBA at Barclays Center.
Percentage of users on Jio Wi-Fi at Wankhede was 53 percent against 36 percent during NFL, 25 percent during Superbowl, 20-25 percent during NBA, 49.7 percent during World Series.
Total data usage per user at Wankhede was 156 MB against 45 MB during NFL, 412 MB during Superbowl, 61 MB during NBA, 37 MB during World Series.
Jionet offered Wi-Fi services at an average speed of 13.55 Mbps at the Wankhede stadium. 4Mbps was the fastest per / person usage.
At the time of the game, NBA fan uploads on Wi-Fi is 39MB and NFL fan uploads is 28 MB. Average time NBA fans spend on Wi-Fi is 49 minutes compared to NFL fans who spend 63 minutes on Wi-Fi. NBA fans download stands at 22 MB with NFL downloads at 17 MB
