Tele2 Netherlands (Tele2 NL) has announced that it intends to migrate its existing mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) user base onto its 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network by mid-July 2015. The operator began moving subscribers with 4G-capable devices last month, and has confirmed plans to move a further 40,000 users in 4G coverage areas in April, before completing the migration process in July.

Tele2 NL intends to migrate its existing MVNO user base onto its 4GLTE network by mid-July 2015.

According to Tele2, its network now offers outdoor coverage of ‘large parts of the Randstad’ (the conurbation consisting of Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague and Utrecht), with indoor coverage of around 50% of the same area.

TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database notes that Tele2 NL was awarded a 4G licence in January 2013 on the condition that it would launch such services within two years; subsequently, in January 2015 the operator rolled out a limited launch for its business customers. While Tele2 NL doesn’t operate its own 2G/3G networks, in February 2009 the provider inked a deal with T-Mobile Netherlands for MVNO access to the latter’s GSM and W-CDMA networks.
