Telecom Italia has carried out a test of LTE broadcast at AC Milan's football stadium, the San Siro, in partnership with Huawei.

The test enabled AC Milan supporters attending the game to simultaneously stream live video footage of three other football matches taking place at the same time. In order to access the service, participants were provided with compatible tablets.

Operator enables AC Milan fans to watch football matches simultaneously from San Siro stadium.

"We are particularly proud to start the testing of LTE broadcast, which will bring the mobile TV anytime and anywhere with very high quality video content and live streaming simultaneously, thanks to the evolution of TIM's (Telecom Italia Mobile's) mobile network," said Marco Patuano, CEO of Telecom Italia, in a statement on Wednesday.

"This is an exciting moment for Huawei. Thanks to collaboration with TIM, we have presented today the first LTE broadcast trial in Italy," added Edward Chan, CEO of Huawei Italy.

Telecom Italia said it plans further demonstrations at Expo 2015 – also knowns as the World's Fair – which opens in Milan in May.

The LTE broadcast trial comes amid a ramp-up in network rollout by the Italian incumbent.

In February, the company increased the number of cell sites it aims to deploy as part of a €900 million plan to extend LTE coverage to 95% of the population by the end of 2017.
