Thailand brings forward 900-MHz LTE auction

14-10-2015 | Global Updates
Thai regulator NBTC has brought forward the planned 900-MHz LTE auction to November 12, one day after the upcoming 1800-MHz auction.

Reuters reports that the NBTC's decision is aimed at accelerating the process to 4G rollouts to help Thailand better compete against other countries in the digital economy.

The revised date is in line with initial plans to hold the two 4G auctions in close proximity. The one month delay had been implemented due to fears of a legal backlash if the NBTC held the auctions too close together.

In total, four LTE licenses will be allocated next month, two in the 900-MHz band and two through the 1800-MHz auction.

Five companies have expressed a formal interest in taking part in the auction, including Mobile LTE, the startup aiming to be selected as the private partner for state-owned TOT's planned 4G rollout.

Four companies have meanwhile picked up bidding documents for the earlier 1800-MHz auction.
