APG – Opportunity to develop for telecommunication network for Viettel
APG – Asia Pacific Gateway
Last month, NEC has completed the construction of the sub sea cable APG (Asia-Pacific Gateway) which connects multiple Asian countries such as: Japan, China, Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, and Vietnam. With a total length of approximately 10,400 km, APG cable network is scheduled to be ready for service at the end of 2016.
APG will use the 100Gbps technology with a total designed capacity of 3.5TB. Beside Viettel, there are also other project participants including: CAT, China Mobile International, China Telecom, China Unicom, Chunghwa Telecom, KT Corporation, LG Uplus, Edge, NTT Communications, StarHub, Global Transit, and VNPT. With this project, Viettel wish to take part in developing and improving the quality of network infrastructure connecting Vietnam with the world.
The speed rate of the APG cable will be approximately 100Gbps and will have the ability to upgrade up to 54Tbps. If compared to the older cable AAG, which only has a bandwidth of 2.88Tbps, the new cable APG will help users experience internet speeds of up to nearly 20 times faster.
Currently, most of the interconnection by Viettel depends mainly on two sub sea cables which are AAG and IA. The event of APG cable being put into operation this month will help to improve the quality of service to customers and reduce unwanted incidents. With APG, Viettel will help to bring faster and more stable internet connection to Vietnam’s users and connect better with leading economic regions such as China, Japan and Korea. Also, together with AAE-1 – the cable which is expected to be launched in Q1/2017, Viettel is wishing to become the No.1 Operator in infrastructure in Vietnam and contribute to the development of telecommunication network in the region.
