Viettel Solutions Hosts Inauguration Ceremony of ADC Submarine Cable System
The event featured the participation of leading regional telecom operators such as Softbank (Japan), China Telecom and China Unicom (China), Singtel (Singapore), PLDT (Philippines), NT (Thailand), and Tata Communications. This milestone underscores Vietnam's leading position in telecommunications infrastructure in East Asia and Southeast Asia.
Inauguration ceremony of ADC (Asia Direct Cable) submarine cable line in Hanoi
The ADC submarine cable spans nearly 10,000 km in length and is equipped with the most advanced technology, using eight fiber pairs on its main route connecting Singapore - Hong Kong - Japan, with an initial design capacity of up to 160 Tbps. The cable directly connects to seven landing stations in countries along its route, including Japan, Hong Kong, China, the Philippines, Thailand, Singapore, and Vietnam (at Quy Nhon, Binh Dinh). It is the largest-capacity submarine cable in Vietnam, doubling the capacity of the current AAE-1 cable.
Mr. Pham Trung Kien, Deputy General Director of Viettel Solutions, stated: “The ADC submarine cable system will expand connections between Vietnam and countries in the region, creating new opportunities for information exchange, international transactions, and technological development.”
After six years of implementation, overcoming challenges such as the Covid-19 pandemic, global supply chain disruptions, and geopolitical conflicts, the project was successfully completed and accepted on November 8, 2024, and officially began operation on December 19, 2024. With the ADC cable system coming into operation, Viettel has become the sole investor in Vietnam to own one fiber pair on the main route, with a minimum design capacity of 20 Tbps, along with the entire cable branch and landing station in Vietnam.
The ADC cable not only enhances international connectivity capacity to support modern technologies such as 5G, artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and augmented/virtual reality (AR/VR) but also contributes to ensuring the safety and stability of Vietnam's Internet infrastructure. Notably, the project's completion coinciding with the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army (December 22, 1944 - December 22, 2024) adds historical and strategic significance to this accomplishment.
In addition to the ADC cable, Viettel Solutions has also invested in other strategic submarine cable projects in 2024, such as the ALC cable connecting major hubs in the Asia region and the VTS cable project connecting Vietnam directly to Singapore. These projects further reinforce Viettel’s pioneering role in developing telecommunications infrastructure, positioning Vietnam as a critical link in the global connectivity network.
With these remarkable achievements, Viettel continues to assert its position as the leading enterprise in international connectivity infrastructure in Vietnam, contributing significantly to the nation's economic, technological, and cybersecurity development.
