Asia Direct Cable Consortium to Build New Asia Pacific Submarine Cable

19-06-2020 | Viettel Headlines
Viettel Group ("Viettel"), the largest Telecommunications Group in Vietnam, today announced that the Asia Direct Cable (ADC) Consortium, of which it is a member, is building a high-performance submarine cable connecting Vietnam, China (Hong Kong SAR and Guangdong Province), Japan, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. The consortium has selected NEC Corporation to construct the 9,400-kilometer long ADC cable, which is expected to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2022.

The cable will feature multiple pairs of high capacity optical fibers and is designed to carry more than 140 Tbps of traffic, enabling high capacity transmission of data across the East and Southeast Asian regions. ADC’s high capacity allows it to support increasingly bandwidth-intensive applications which are driven by technological advancements in 5G, the cloud, the Internet-of-Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI). This will further enhance the expansion of communications networks in the region.

The ADC project is the fifth submarine cable Viettel has invested over the years beside AAE-1 (landed in Vung Tau), TGN-IA (landed in Vung Tau), APG (landed in Da Nang) and AAG (landed in Vung Tau). Viettel will also provide its Cable Landing Station (CLS) for ADC cable landing in Quy Nhon, Vietnam. This will be the first cable landing station which Viettel owns exclusively in Quy Nhon.

Mr Doan Dai Phong, Executive Vice President, Viettel Business Solutions Corpation - Branch of Viettel Group said: “ADC will play an important role to expand our international network further to provide better network diversity and enhance Viettel’s capabilities to connect Vietnam to the rest of the world. This will help to bring Viettel one step closer to fulfill our motto “Viettel always tries best to connect people anytime, anywhere and regardless of who they are.”
