Peruvian mobile operator Bitel is preparing to take part in the imminent auction for spectrum in the 700 MHz band, reports local daily Gestion, citing the operator's deputy sales director Erick Navarrete.

"We are ready for 4G, small deployments would be needed and we could launch the services within a few months of winning," said Navarrete.

The local unit of Vietnamese state-run telco Viettel recently reached the milestone of 500,000 mobile subscribers just under a year after launching. It currently has a share of around 2 percent of the Peruvian mobile market and is looking to increase its subscriber base to 1 million by the end of 2015. The operator owns mobile spectrum in both the 900 MHz and 1,900 MHz bands.
