The development of Viettel's international network
Viettel has promoted investment in 2 new sea cables are: APG (Asian Pacific Gateway) and AAE-1 (Asia – Africa – Europe 1) in order to provide internationally connecting capability to Tbps in next few years and expand the network to global.
Viettel’s International network connection was built in 2006 – 2007. Start-up is a connection via satellites with very small capacity. Later, connecting gates using transmission technology SDH through China with the initial capacity (STM-16, STM-64) progressively prevailed.
Until 2009, Viettel had the first sea cable system – AAG (America Asia Gateway) to connect Vietnam (Vung Tau harbor) with some around countries, such as: Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, HongKong, Philippines and lasting to America. The presence of AAG had raised more international connections for Viettel and did not need to base on the mainland cables of China with such a high cost.

In 2012, Viettel accepted EVN Telecom’s network, includes IA (Intra Asia) sea cable system with the capacity of 50 Gbps. This is a stable sea cable and easy to upgrade high capacity.

Owning of 2 sea cables which have ability in providing high capacity, last year 2014, Viettel has had hundreds Gbps connecting to HongKong, Singapore, America to deliver Internet,Voice, Roaming sectors and also provide the leased lines in customers’ demand.
