Viettel to promote development of IPv6 and LTE 4G technology in Vietnam

21-05-2016 | Viettel Headlines
In recent years, Viettel has become one of the key enterprises who have deployed experimental activities in providing Ipv6 based services.

After the conference to review Phase II of the National Action Plan on IPv6, Vietnam has completed the basic goals and tasks set for the second phase, the infrastructure is ready for the transition to IPv6 and make official presence on the world’s Ipv6 map. Up to now, the rate of Vietnam IPv6 users has reached nearly 0.03% instead of 0% as in the previous period.

In 2016, along with other major telecommunication firms in the country such as VNPT, MobiFone and FPT, Viettel has been licensed with 4G testing. Accordingly, Viettel has conducted successful trials of providing IPv6 based mobile services, broadband, FTTH subscribers using GPON technology. There have been 35 active clients up to this point and it is ready to provide to another 11,000 customers. Starting from March of 2016, Viettel has officially provided Ipv6 services in Ba Ria - Vung Tau area and testing IPv6 on the 4G network for their employees. Viettel currently has 10 different international IPv6 connections with a total capacity of 432Gbps.

Recently, together with VNPT-Net, FPT, Viettel has joined the training programs of IPv6 deployment for LTE mobile networks organized by the Vietnam Internet Network Information Center (VNNIC), with the participation of the world's leading experts and lecturers from the Ipv6 research center of the university of Malaysia - Nav6, a leader in the IPv6 field in Malaysia since 2010. The training course aims to help agencies quickly approach, develop products and services on actual IPv6 based applications.

According to the National Action Plan on IPv6 issued in March 2011, the roadmap of transitioning to IPv6 in Vietnam will consist of three phases: Phase I: Preparation (2011- 2012); Phase II: Launching (2013-2015); and Phase III: Transformation (2016- 2019). The biggest goal of Phase III is to complete the networks, assures of stabilized Internet services Vietnam and sustainable Ipv6 based technology.

Currently, Vietnam is still being limited in many aspects on IPv6 migration path due to lacking emphasis of common capabilities and access to information about IPv6 by enterprises and end-users. Mr Phan Tam, the Deputy Minister of MIC said, "In the upcoming time, we will need to join together to bring IPv6 services closer to users, traffic will only increase when service is actually ready"; He also suggested the Frequency Department, the Department of Telecom to accelerate the LTE licensing of 4G on the 1.800 MHz frequency band for those businesses who have been licensed with 4G trials by the fourth quarter of this year at the latest.

In the coming time, Viettel and other enterprises in the industry will join hands to promote IPv6 traffic, universalize it to all users and complete the National Action Plan on Ipv6 successfully.
