Viettel with telecommunication provisions in Trans-Pacific Strategic Economic Partnership Agreement (TPP)

On October 4th, 2015, the Ministers of 12 countries that involved in TPP including Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, USA, and Vietnam declared to conclude negotiations by an agreement with high-standard, comprehensive, and balanced pack and including telecommunication regulations inside.

TPP includes 30 chapters on trade and issues related to trade which is updated from the former free trade agreement with the traditional approaches and significant issues – telecommunication.

With the aim to promote economic growth, support on creatinging and maintaining jobs, improve innovation, productivity and competitiveness, raise living standard, reducing poverty in affiliated countries; while promoting effective management, transparency, employment safety, and environmental protection. As the leading role as one of the top 3 largest telcos in Vietnam, Viettel committed to abide by the provisions in TPP.

Accordingly, Viettel and its partners will collaborate to work toward a more transparent and reasonable wholesale price for international roaming services, which thereafter could help improving commerce development between parties and improving customer satisfaction. Furthermore, Viettel will assure that the information regarding retail price of international mobile services would be comfortably accessible by customers, and decrease the level of barriers for substitute service selections. The customer then could connect to telecom services by choice while being in countries which are members of TPP coalition.

Simultaneously, Viettel and its partners will assure to share the detailed retail prices of voice, SMS, data services with each others no later than 1 year from the day TPP took in effect. Each partner will be expected to update and share pricing information in yearly basis or in needed agreements.
