Bitel accounted for 50% mobile internet coverage in Peru
On October, 04th 2016, at Peru Telecommunications Forum (Forum Telecom Peru) in Peru, Deputy General Director of Viettel Group -Tao Duc Thang had share the experiences in universalization of telecommunications networks in remote areas. Along with the presence of the others operator such as Claro, Movistar and Entel, Bitel (Viettel Telecom brand in Peru) has known as a fast growing speed telecom operator with high quality mobile internet services. Therefore, as proposed by the organizers, this time, Bitel brought to the forum a presentation which focused on the experience of network development, especially in 3G internet service. Bitel has covered 18,000 residential areas, while the total number of the others network in Peru is only half of Bitel. Currently, Bitel’s penetration has grown to 17% of the population in the Eastern region.

In the first 6 months of 2016, Bitel reached 201 million soles (Peruvian currency) revenue, which was 2 times higher compare to the revenue in the same period in 2015. The growth rate of Bitel’s subscribers was 41%, also 5 times higher than the average growth rate of the entire Peru’s telecommunications industry (8%).
In Peru, customers using mobile Internet is accounted for 51% (35% in 2014) and 7 times higher than the number of fixed-broadband customers; the proportion of smartphones is also account for 70% of total devices sold in this country. Meanwhile, 3G service’s revenues of Bitel increased 4.5 times compared to the first half of 2015. As expected, Bitel will provide 4G services later this year.
