Thanks To APG, The Impact Of AAG Cable Cut Has Been Reduced
The AAG (Asia America Gateway) cable, which connects directly to Southeast Asia and to the U.S. had been interrupted and until this point, AAG consortium has not yet release news on maintenance schedule for this incident. Thanks to the new APG (Asia Pacific Gateway) cable, which has been put into operation in late 2016, the impact of AAG cable cut has been reduced greatly. In addition, the appearance of APG has been increasing the security of the Internet in Vietnam while also reducing the reliance on AAG cable. Since more than half of the Internet traffic in Vietnam goes through AAG, the influence of AAG cable cut is unavoidable. However, the degree of influence depends on the readiness of ISP and Operators in Vietnam. This time, with APG cable, the impact has been small and acceptable for most customers.
The Asia-Pacific Gateway (APG) is an undersea cable system linking 8 countries and regions in Asia-Pacific region
On February 19th 2017, Viettel has confirmed that their customers will not be affected by AAG cable cut due to Viettel pre-Lunar New Year’s schedule to upgrade more capacity on the route to Hong Kong, Japan, and through landlines to China, Cambodia and Thailand as well. Meanwhile, Viettel has also implemented solutions to push cache data (stored data) for the server of Google, Facebook in Vietnam to help customers still able to access services without having to connect internationally. In addition, IA cable (Intra Asia) is being repaired at the moment and is expected to be completed by the date of 25.02.2017. This will enhance preventive capacities of international connections for Viettel to ensure service quality for customers.
