Viettel about to deploy 4G by the end of this year

The recent movements of Vietnam's biggest operator - Viettel has shown that the 4G network will soon be deployed officially on a large scale.

The build out of LTE networks continued apace in 2014, with 335 networks having been deployed in 118 countries. 4G network coverage is expanding rapidly and now reaches 26% of the world’s population, although there is a clear bias towards developed markets. In December 2014, 4G coverage reached 90% of the population across developed markets and 15% in the developing world. Deployments across countries in Latin America and Asia Pacific will drive global 4G coverage over the next five years. North America has the world’s highest 4G coverage at 97%, as well as the largest proportion of 4G connections (over 40% against a global average of just over 7%).

Following the global trend about development of 4G network, Viettel is ready to launch the 4G technology in Viet Nam market and some of its foreign markets.

Recently, Viettel has completed testing 4G network with 157 stations in Vung Tau 4G and will continue to deploy throughout the country in the coming period. The first type of mobile was tested 4G successfully are iPhone and iPad. This should be a good news for users, who using “Apple” product. They will be the first customers to experience the latest and most advanced technology from Viettel.

At present, the number of users of Apple’s product still account for a significant proportion. iPhone and iPad devices has become essential things for user in meeting the demand of work and entertainment. Understanding that trend, Viettel has decided to test 4G technology on this type of device firstly. After completing the test on the iPhone and iPad, Viettel will conduct testing on a variety of 4G devices with the hope that all customer will able to experience 4G technology.

Mr Hoang Son - Deputy General Director of Viettel said the 4g network testing has completed and the results are good. Therefore, Viettel recommended MIC to awards 4G license to this state own enterprise in early 9/2016.

To use 4G service of Viettel, customers need to exchange to the new 4G sim at direct shop of Viettel at exchange fee 25000 VNĐ per sim. The process of upgrading to 4G sim is extremely simple and customers still retain their subscriber numbers. This is one of first step from Viettel in the process of lauching 4G technology all over the country.

Regarding to the 4G technology for Roaming service, from June 2016, Viettel’s customers can experience the 4G technology when using Data Roaming service. The first countries that customers can use 4G tech are Canada and Hong Kong. Especially, in the beginning time of lauching this program, Viettel have preferential policies (such as give voucher to customers…). Viettel has received great feedback from customers when using Data Roaming with 4G technology.

That are good news for Viettel to develop the 4G networks in Viet Nam and international market in the near future.
